Find your dream home

A cottage by the sea? A farm in the countryside? Or perhaps a penthouse apartment right in the city center? No matter where you choose to live in East Sweden, you're always close to both work and nature.

A place for peace

Finding a balance in everyday life can be a challenge when juggling between work and family. A good accommodation, where home truly becomes a place for peace and relaxation, may be the most important aspect of that equation. In East Sweden, you'll find the accommodation that gives you the right balance in life.

Do you want to live with the pulse of the city right outside your door? Then you'll find your apartment in one of our larger cities. Norrköping and Linköping offer nightlife, shopping districts, and a wide cultural scene. Both cities are seeing the emergence of new and exciting areas. One example is Vallastaden in Linköping, where innovation and variety characterize the entire district. Another is Inre hamnen in Norrköping, with its location by a sea inlet in the middle of the city. But of course, there are also ordinary row houses and villas where you can exchange a few words with your neighbor over the hedge.

If you're drawn to smaller towns, there are many to choose from, including charming and medieval Söderköping and Vadstena. Or why not a house with its own beach in Motala -the lake city of East Sweden?

If the countryside is your thing, East Sweden can offer flat landscapes with views of Lake Vättern and rolling yellow rapeseed fields. Or perhaps a cottage in the tranquil forest by a lake. Perfect for those who want to be farmers in their spare time, have their horse in their own stable, or simply live close to nature while working in the city. If you prefer to gaze out over the sea, we suggest a house by the coast in one of our archipelagos, S:t Anna, Gryt, or Tjust.

Regardless of where you choose to live in Östergötland, you can find your new dream accommodation at lower prices and closer to work than you ever thought possible. The choice is yours!

Facts about Housing in Sweden

Foreign citizens can own properties and apartments in Sweden. There are no requirements to be a Swedish citizen. In Sweden, the real estate agent has a unique role that differs from the system of buying and selling agents found in many other European countries. Unlike buying and selling agents, the real estate agent in Sweden is a neutral party between the buyer and seller – in everything except the price. So, you can directly contact a Swedish real estate agent if you find an interesting property.

Most people in Sweden finance their home purchases through loans, where the bank has the property as security for the loan. You can borrow up to 85 percent of the property's value – the rest is paid as a down payment. Foreign citizens can borrow money in Sweden for a property purchase; exactly what is required varies between banks. Contact the banks directly for information on specific requirements and conditions for foreign borrowers.

In Sweden, these housing forms are most common:

• House – if you buy a house, you usually own both the house and the land. You are responsible for all costs related to your house.

• Condominium – you buy a share of the property itself and own the right to use your apartment. You own the entire property together with other residents in the building.

• Rental apartment – you rent your apartment and pay a monthly rent to your landlord. The landlord is responsible for maintenance and management. In Sweden, there are both municipal rental companies and private ones.
